The Contents of My Car:
- A Lite make-up bag
- A travel pillow and blanket
- Chill sandals, dressier sandals, work sneakers.
- Three Carnation Instant Breakfast packets
- Napkins
- A pair of jeans
- Socks. Some dirty, some new.
- A Bible
- A dress
- Deodorant
- Deposit slips
- A bottle of wine
- Mouthwash
- Books, magazines. Random reading material.
- Two granola bars
- A packet of water bottles.
- Three tshirts, and other changes of outfits if necessary.
- A lint roller.
- Hair berets.
- Mail.
- BBQ chips
- Hand sanitizer
Most of this is normal stuff, I know. But I kind of just realized I could live out of my car for a few days if necessary. And it seems as if I have been doing so for the past couple of months.
And on days like this… when I’m too tired to make it out of the car and empty its contents of the week - dirty work scrubs and Tudors bags and weekend duffels packed for wherever I landed those nights - when shadows begin to move from the corners of my eyes and I’m not sure I can brave the spider at the front door…. I’m tempted to just stay put in this bucket seat and let NPR weave me in philosophical folk dreams.
